What Is Printer Driver And How It Works?
Can you imagine a printer without the printer driver?. How can it work?. What is printer driver and its role?. Printer driver is a software which generates control code data for a printer to print and sends this data to the printer. By means,printer drives is utility for computer and printer to establish communication.
To have such a good understanding of printer driver we should know the following terms:
- Computer communicates with a printer via printer driver.
- Printer driver creates and sends printing code and data to the printer.
- Applications use printer driver to print text and images.
- All applications send data to the driver via Graphic Device Interface (GDI).
- Printer language is a set of commands that a computer uses for printing.
- Printer languages control print format feature like page size,fonts,images,etc.
- Generally,there are three types of printer languages: ASCII Code, Printer Command Language (PCL), and Page Description Language (PDL).
- To establish correct printing process, computer and printer should be of the same command set. I.e: ASCII printer should use ASCII printer language on the computer.
